Ian Dorian
Ian Dorian is a character designer, storyboard artist, writer, and graphic novel illustrator. Some of his clients include Warner Bros Animation, Marvel Productions, Paramount and Valiant. He has designed characters for intellectual properties such as Watchmen, Avengers, Simpson, and Family Guy. He has worked as a Storyboard artist for live action films and commercials such as King of Killers and Sony media. Ian co created the graphic novel Law of Resistance working alongside his co creative partner Matthew Pallotta along with talents such as Jim Krueger, Bill Sienkiewicz, Mark Texeira, Joe Weems, Matt Banning, Dean White, Ross Campbell, Janice Chiang, Taylor Esposito, with Alternate cover by Neal Adams.
From an early age Ian studied dance and martial arts as well as fine art. Among his martial arts instructors were Dan Inosanto, and Rick Stickles. While attending the school for the gifted and talented he performed in theater, be it classical performances or ballets such as Medea, Macbeth, and Tchaikovsky’s the Nutcracker suite. At times, Ian would write and perform in his own productions whether through super 8 film or local stages in public areas. From the age of eighteen through his thirties, he learned from comic book professionals such as Neal Adams, Jack Kirby, Mark Texeira, Joe Kubert, Adam Kubert, and Rags Morales. He taught Figure Drawing and Methods and Materials at the Joe Kubert School while simultaneously teaching at The University of the Arts and the Maryland Institute College of Art. He was captivated by the power of filmaking and animation early in his life. Films such as Superman, Close Encounters, Indiana Jones, James Bond, Back to the Future, Mission Impossible, Terminator, and Star Wars were among the most influential. Ian believes that the value music brings to cinema cannot be overstated. In his youth Ian’s favorite animated productions were Gatchaman, Bugs Bunny, Johnny Quest, and the Marvel comics adapted animated shows. As a teen and adult Ian discovered Anime. Among his favorite are Ninja Scroll, Golgo 13, Cowboy Bebop, Battle Angel Alita and Vampire Hunter D Blood lust.
Outside of his professional art career Ian was accepted into the secret service. He worked for security agencies and spent time as a journeyman for the DoD. Ian is a linguaphile and a voracious reader of theoretical physics with a passion for classical and ancient philosophy and literature. though Ian loves to write and draw action adventure, his most watched movies are When Harry met Sally, A Few Good Men, Kramer vs Kramer, Parenthood and The Agony and The Ecstasy.
